Backstrap 90 x 60cms

The Triqui Indian back strap weavers of Oaxaca in Mexico, make and wear costumes based on designs handed down through the generations. Reflections on their lives in a changing world and the visual impact of Mexico’s vibrant colours, textures and patterns prompted a response, in which digitally printed photographs and artwork were embedded on coloured hessians, layered with contrasting fabrics and worked with hand and machine stitch.
